June: The Art of Play
Share
Welcome to your digital play space! Grab a cozy drink and a snack, and let’s explore what "play" really means for us as adults.
🧸 From the Toy Box to Your Mailbox
I want to let you in on a secret: before I started A Wisp of Sunshine, I actually worked at Mattel. Yes, that Mattel, home to Hot Wheels, Barbie, and pure imagination.
While I was there, I lived and breathed the idea of play. But somewhere along the way, like most of us, I forgot how to play just for the sake of it. We get so caught up in our daily routines, endless to-do lists, and constant productivity that we start treating even our hobbies like tasks to cross off.
This month, I wanted to design an experience that helps us break that cycle and find a little more balance.
🧩 Discover Your Play Personality
Play is for everyone, although it doesn't look the same for everyone. Mattel actually launched a groundbreaking global study on this exact topic called The Shape of Play, exploring how play acts as a lifeline to lift our spirits and bridge social differences.

🎨 My Personality Type: The Memory Maker
Once you take the quiz, you might wonder where I land. My results labeled me a Memory Maker.
According to the study, for a Memory Maker, play isn't just a way to pass the time or have fun. It's a way to connect to those who are most important to you! It means enjoying big adventures with friends, but also deeply treasuring those easy nights spent in good company, staying in to catch a favorite show, or playing a casual game of UNO.
Celebrating that felt a little uncomfortable at first. I felt like if I was drawing or crafting, it had to turn into a specific goal or something "useful." It can be hard to just exist in a creative moment without worrying about productivity.
But true play is beautifully unproductive. As a Memory Maker, I've realized that the value isn't in creating something perfect; it's about anchoring a feeling and preserving a small pocket of joy to share with others. That is exactly why I included the hand-assembled fortune teller and the journal prompts in your mail this month, to give us both a tangible, pressure-free permission slip to make a memory, connect with our inner child, and just play.
💌 Let's Play Together
Whether your results name you a Memory Maker, an Explorer, or a Creator, my hope for you this month is that you give yourself permission to do something completely, beautifully unproductive. If you have this month's "Play" letter in your hands, pull out your hand-assembled fortune teller and dive into the journal prompts. Let them be your gentle guide back to your inner child. **What play personality did you get?
